Manual Lymph Drainage

What is Manual Lymph Drainage?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized, light touch technique designed to improve the function and flow of the lymphatic system. MLD was developed by Dr. Emil Vodder, PhD and his wife, Estrid. The Vodder’s developed the gentle, rhythmic movements specifically to improve the health of their patients/clients. This specialized technique can improve the normal functioning of the lymphatic system, speeding up waste removal.

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system transports water, protein, fat and other waste from throughout the body to the cardiovascular system. It carries away waste and toxins. Lymph nodes, which are part of the lymphatic system, are filtering stations for bacteria, toxins and dead cells. The nodes also produce white blood cells and regulate the concentration of protein in the lymph.

MLD has been used in cases of:

  • Edema
  • Lymphedema
  • Post-traumatic swelling, such as sprains, whiplash, bruising, etc.
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Tinnitis ("ringing in the ears")
  • Headaches – Migraine/Sinus
  • Cellulite

MLD has also been used for:

  • General relaxation
  • Enhancing immune function
